Jon and Danny of Randomonium presented me with another rebrand project, this time for their main channel Randomonium, after completing the one for Timely, their podcast channel. They wanted some fresh colors, a new secondary typeface, and a new YouTube channel banner. Randomonium already had a set brand/look for a good year or two, so I knew I wouldn’t want to stray too far from the original branding in order to keep the brand recognizable.
COLOR PALETTE
For the color palette, I kept the original bright teal color, which is Randomonium’s most recognizable color, I then decided to refresh the other existing colors by giving them some more life/vibrance and added an additional coral color to create some more dimension amongst the entire palette.
SECONDARY TYPEFACE
The original secondary typeface (Helvetica) worked well for the thumbnails because of its simplicity and boldness. I knew to keep this in mind when looking for a new secondary font, but this time around, I wanted to find a typeface that would bring a little more personality and character to the overall look of the thumbnails and subtitle text in the videos. Lemon Milk did just that with its boldness and simple characteristics that can be found in some of the letters, such as “N” and “A” – both play with the corners of the lettering.
STYLE ELEMENTS
YOUTUBE BANNER
The refresh of the YouTube banner brought the biggest changes to the overall brand refresh of Randomonium. The design of the banner really allowed me to bring in new style elements that would give the new look that Jon and Danny were looking for. They were specifically looking for something inspired by the 80’s Memphis style of shapes and lines creating fun and eye-catching patterns. With this in mind, I created an array of different shapes, style elements, and textures that would be used in the final banner, and that could also be used for future brand purposes like graphics, social media posts, etc. In addition to the design and illustration portion, I also edited Jon and Danny’s headshots that can be found in the final banner.
